Journeying into the heart of my NDE through Winter Solstice

Do you have a favorite place you have visited? Where is it?

One of my Solstice Journeys took me deep into the heart of my NDE—my near-death experience—and into the artwork that grew out of it. That season was extraordinary. I would enter trances while drawing, and suddenly I could see or feel the shapes and symbols as if they were alive inside the paper.

At the time, I was still dealing with significant brain damage from anoxia, so my drawings looked almost childlike, and my words came out jumbled or tangled. But that’s part of what makes them so powerful. They show exactly where my mind was, how fragile and raw the world felt then. And what’s even more remarkable is seeing how far I’ve come.

Every year, during those Twelve Nights, I can look at that artwork and watch my brain rebuilding itself, reconnecting, growing rapidly in ways that amaze me. It’s one of the most fascinating experiences of my life.

I’ll be sharing some the NDE artwork
