One afternoon in 1970, as I walked by carrying a load of laundry, I heard a man crying loudly through his backyard door. He kept saying, “I killed it!”
I stopped and asked, “Killed what?”
Through his tears he answered, “A roach! I killed the roach!”
In that moment, I knew he was someone I could love. From then on, we became the best of friends for many years.
