According to old lore, Finding Freedom Within began when a wandering sage discovered that the greatest prisons were invisible — the ones built from fear, regret, and silence. The sage lit a single candle inside a cave, declaring that anyone who could see their own reflection in that flame had found true freedom. The people began to gather yearly, seeking that same inner illumination.
Celebrated on the first new moon after the autumn equinox, this day honors the liberation of the soul.
At dawn, people sit in silence for thirteen minutes, releasing fear and sorrow. At twilight, candles are lit to welcome the self home. A simple feast of fruit, honey, and bread follows.
Before midnight, each person writes one word — their “key” to freedom — and burns it so the smoke carries their vow to the stars.
