Describe something you learned in high school.
The only class that I appreciated in High School was speech. I tried so hard, and I did conquer one thing, though my grade wasn’t over the top excellent. I learned about facing fears standing in front of a crowd whether ten or hundreds. Fears are only fears of what we fear and those fears are based on fears, and there is absolutely no truths that can be found in all those fears.

That’s how it usually works small moments compound into something much bigger over time.
What started as simply getting through a challenge became a foundation for confidence and communication. That’s a powerful shift.
It also highlights an important principle: facing discomfort early often creates advantages later that you don’t fully appreciate in the moment.

Yeah, I didn’t really see it that way at the time, but looking back it definitely built more than I expected. It’s kind of wild how those small moments add up.

That’s a valuable takeaway. Learning to stand in front of a crowd and face fear is more practical than many traditional subjects.
Fear, in most cases, is simply a projection of what might go wrong not what will go wrong. The act of stepping forward despite that uncertainty is what builds real confidence.
Public speaking, in particular, forces you to organize your thoughts, communicate clearly, and maintain composure under pressure skills that are essential in leadership, business, and life.
What stands out is not the grade, but the fact that you pushed through discomfort and gained control over something that holds many people back. That’s a real advantage.
In many ways, progress whether in technology or personal growth comes down to the same principle: identify the fear, challenge it, and move forward anyway.

I have to laugh a little—what started as me just trying to survive a high school speech class ended up with me speaking on podcasts these days without any fear. That one class carried further than I ever imagined.
