Is Marijuana an Herb?

Genesis 1:29 (KJV):
“And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.”

Yes—marijuana (cannabis) can be considered an herb, but it depends on how you’re using the word.

🌿 In a botanical sense

An herb is simply a plant with non-woody stems.

  • Cannabis fits this definition ✅
  • It’s an annual herbaceous plant in the species Cannabis sativa (and related varieties)

🌱 In everyday / herbal use

People also call it an herb because:

  • It’s used medicinally (pain, nausea, anxiety, etc.)
  • It can be prepared similarly to other herbs (teas, extracts, oils)

⚠️ But it’s not a typical “herbal tea” plant

Unlike chamomile or mint:

  • Cannabis contains psychoactive compounds (THC)
  • Its effects can alter mood, perception, and cognition

So while it is an herb, it’s often treated separately because of its drug-like effects and legal status.

✅ Simple answer

  • Yes → botanically and loosely in herbal terms
  • But → it’s a psychoactive herb, which makes it different from most teas and kitchen herbs

It’s part of the creation account where God provides for humanity

And personally speaking believe that marijuana should be legalized in all states of The United States. 🇺🇸

Period. No ifs and’s or buts.
