3. Gardnerian Wicca aimed for polarity
Traditional Wicca generally envisioned the universe through complementary forces:
Goddess ↔ God Priestess ↔ Priest Moon ↔ Sun Female ↔ Male
The intention was therefore closer to ritual polarity than straightforward male supremacy.
But there’s an important modern criticism here.
A system can declare men and women “equal” while still assigning them predetermined roles based upon sex. Consequently, some contemporary Pagans consider traditional Wiccan polarity restrictive even when its practitioners understood it as complementary rather than hierarchical.
