Perhaps life’s deepest purpose is not the pursuit of pleasure, happiness, joy, or enlightenment alone, but the experience of their opposites as well. Through sorrow, pain, confusion, and despair, we come to recognize the meaning of peace, love, clarity, and delight. Life reveals itself through contrast: light becomes visible because we have known darkness, and joy becomes sacred because we have endured loss. Our mission, then, may be to inhabit the full spectrum of existence—to awaken through every triumph, every wound, and every quiet moment in between—and, through these experiences, discover what it truly means to be alive.
