If you could erase one event from history, what would it be?
I’d erase Hitler’s appointment as German chancellor on January 30, 1933. It was a pivotal institutional handover that enabled dictatorship, world war, and genocide.
History might still have taken a dark path—the underlying forces would remain—but removing that particular transfer of power could plausibly have prevented tens of millions of deaths. The unsettling caveat is that altering history never guarantees a better outcome; it only changes which risks unfold.
