Romantic Hobbies

One hobby I’ve really enjoyed lately is writing romantic escapades about love—not simply romance, but the strange and beautiful language of human intimacy.

I’m fascinated by the capacity we have for romantic touch: the tenderness of anticipation, a whisper against the neck, a lingering glance, and those eyes that seem capable of undressing another person without ever touching a button.

Then, perhaps, the fireworks. 🎇

Human beings carry enormous tension. Most of us are survivors of something—loss, disappointment, betrayal, loneliness, childhood dramas, broken relationships, or simply the exhausting business of navigating life.

Yet tenderness can temporarily quiet all that noise.

What interests me most in writing about sexuality is that desire is not exclusively male, nor is the desire for control. Women can want fiercely. Women can pursue, initiate, lead, possess, surrender, or refuse. Men can desire tenderness, vulnerability, reassurance, and the freedom to surrender control themselves.

Perhaps some of our difficulties begin when we assign desire, dominance, vulnerability, and tenderness according to gender rather than recognizing them as parts of being human.

At its best, intimacy isn’t about taking something from another person.

It is two people willingly laying down their armor.

And sometimes, after surviving the seriousness of being human, a little love, laughter, tenderness—and perhaps a few fireworks 🎇—may be exactly what two consenting adults need.

Is this possible or am I dreaming?

I mean, what are we missing?
