What Do I Know Now That I Wish I’d Known Then?
You don’t have to abandon yourself to be loved.
For years, I thought being understanding meant accepting everything. I thought loyalty meant staying quiet, giving more, and making excuses for people who kept hurting me. I wish I had known sooner that love should not require me to shrink, silence my truth, or ignore what my heart already understood.
The right people won’t punish you for having boundaries. They won’t make you feel guilty for needing honesty, respect, or room to be yourself.
At 74, I know this now: protecting your peace isn’t selfish. Walking away isn’t failure. And choosing yourself—especially after years of putting everyone else first—can be one of the most loving things you ever do. 💜
